Senior Accountant

Position Summary

 

We are actively seeking talented Senior Accountants to join our network of accounting professionals for current and upcoming opportunities with our clients. The ideal candidate has experience managing project finances, purchase orders, budgeting, and profitability analysis while supporting month-end close and financial reporting. Successful candidates will possess strong analytical skills, attention to detail, and the ability to partner with project managers and leadership to ensure accurate financial oversight and project success.

 

Key Responsibilities

  • Manage the complete accounting lifecycle for assigned projects from project setup through closeout.

  • Monitor project budgets, costs, and profitability to ensure financial objectives are met.

  • Prepare and analyze project Profit & Loss (P&L) statements.

  • Review project financial performance and provide recommendations to improve profitability.

  • Process, reconcile, and monitor Purchase Orders (POs) and ensure expenditures are properly authorized.

  • Work closely with Purchasing and Operations to ensure purchase orders align with project budgets.

  • Review vendor invoices and verify appropriate coding to projects.

  • Track committed costs, subcontractor expenses, and change orders.

  • Perform monthly project revenue and cost recognition.

  • Prepare journal entries, account reconciliations, and month-end close schedules.

  • Analyze project variances and investigate discrepancies.

  • Maintain Work-in-Progress (WIP) schedules and support project forecasting.

  • Assist with annual budgeting and forecasting.

  • Prepare financial reports for project managers and executive leadership.

  • Ensure compliance with company policies and GAAP.

  • Support internal and external audits.

  • Identify opportunities to improve accounting processes and internal controls.

  • Mentor junior accounting staff as needed.

 

Required Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, or related field.

  • Minimum 2 years of Project Accounting experience.

  • Strong understanding of:

    • Project accounting

    • Job costing

    • General Ledger accounting

    • Month-end close

    • Financial reporting

  • Experience managing Purchase Orders (POs) and vendor invoices.

  • Experience preparing and analyzing Project P&L statements.

  • Experience with budget tracking and variance analysis.

  • Strong Microsoft Excel skills including PivotTables, XLOOKUP/VLOOKUP, and formulas.

  • Experience with ERP systems such as Oracle, SAP, NetSuite, Microsoft Dynamics, Viewpoint, or similar.

  • Strong analytical, organizational, and problem-solving skills.

  • Excellent communication and collaboration abilities.

  • Ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously while meeting deadlines.

 

Preferred Qualifications

  • CPA or CPA candidate preferred (But not required).

  • Experience with construction, engineering, manufacturing, or capital project accounting.

  • Knowledge of revenue recognition principles.

  • Experience with project forecasting and Work-in-Progress (WIP) reporting.

  • Experience developing accounting process improvements.

  • Advanced Excel skills including Power Query, Power Pivot, or automation.
